2021 NBA Playoff X-Factors – West

Dallas Mavericks

42-30, 5th in West

Playoff Matchup: (4) Los Angeles Clippers

Sean: Jalen Brunson

Jalen Brunson has scraped and clawed his way into an integral role on this Dallas team since he was drafted out of Villanova.  Aside from running the second unit, Brunson fills a crucial need as a backup ball handler behind Doncic.  Brunson has even finished games with Luka to alleviate pressure off him with that skill set.

Brunson has also upped his scoring and shooting percentages significantly. It’s quite possible that Brunson is the second most important player on the Mavericks currently. His ability to fill multiple crucial role for this team is invaluable.

James: Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Mavs have had an up and down season, but Hardaway is the only player on that roster who has been consistent through and through. A year ago he was the second option offensively where he saw more touches than he was accustomed to and capitalized on every opportunity that went his way. For those who don’t know Hardaways game he’s an inside-out threat who operates from three and mid range. He is also +15 when Luka and Porzingis head to the bench, giving Dallas the offensive boost they need.

16.6 points a game on 43% shooting (39% from three) the Mavs have their secret weapon on deck.
