Dwight Howard Signs With 76ers To Veteran Minimum

Per Shams (the Athletic), center Dwight Howard has signed to a one-year deal with Philadelphia. Howard spent the last year on the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers.

What does this mean for Dwight Howard and the Sixers?

Howard was expected by many to stay in Los Angeles for another championship run. However, he is coincidentally joining Daryl Morey again, the same man who brought him to Houston around 5 years ago.

While he is not set for a starting role, Howard provides a rock solid option should Embiid suffer an injury. In the Sixers’ current roster overload, they are filling holes that recently held them back. By bringing in genuine backups for Embiid, along with veteran shooters, they set up their stars for success.

Bottom Line: Howard will most definitely see solid minutes in Doc Rivers’ rotations next year. His post-dominant style may even be used in sets with Embiid, although he mainly will be featured during Embiid’s rest. This is a good move.
