Franchise point guard and speedster De’Aaron Fox recently signed a 5-year max extension with the Kings, per Shams. This deal includes a possibility of Fox choosing to extend his deal to a super-max contract.
What this means for De’Aaron Fox and the Kings…
Fox averaged 21.1 ppg/3.8 rpg/ 6.8 apg/ 1.5 spg, and the Kings barely missed the playoffs in this summer’s NBA bubble. Signing this deal indicates a few things. To begin, all trade rumors or Miami Heat rumors regarding Fox are invalid. He is clearly in it for the long haul, ready to play it out with the King’s young core. This also may indicate that Fox sees no issue with the King’s drafting of Iowa State combo guard Tyrese Haliburton.
Though they may not be in championship contention, the Kings are closer to the playoffs than one would think. A (hopefully) Healthy Marvin Bagley III, De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton are a very diverse young core to work with for the next decade.
