In case you didn’t know, Luka Doncic is a very good basketball player. Watching him you would not think he was a rookie just last season. He’s 20 years old, but plays like he’s much older and has much more experience. We always knew the Slovenian product had the potential to be great, but we didn’t expect to see him be this great already. He won the Rookie of the Year award last season, averaging 21.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 6 assists. This statline is crazy for a rookie, epsecially because it shows how he can impact the game in various ways, putting up eight triple doubles last year. He already has seven triple doubles this year in 14 games, and has been very dangerous so far in the beginning of his second season.
Luka is also the main reason the Mavericks are off to such a hot start. A 9-5 record is on pace for a lot better than what we epxected, and that starts with the big jump in play Doncic has had thus far. His numbers are up to 29.5 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 9.3 asssits per game this season. A decent jump from his stellar rookie year, and could potentially be MVP numbers. I’m assuming he won’t be crowned MVP this year, but the league will have to take him in to serious consideration for the award if he keeps playing like this. He was close to being named an all-star last year, and he will surely be on that roster this February.
There was a ton of hype surrouding Doncic before he was drafted. It is safe to say that so far he has lived up to it. He is propeling himself into the highest tier of NBA talent, and has gained a tremendous amount of respect from other stars in the league. People in the sports world are seeing greatness before their eyes, and I am a witness as well. If he keeps getting better over the next few years we might just be calling Luka Doncic the best player in the NBA at some point.
