I’d Take NBA Duos Over NBA Superteams Any day

The NBA is more competitive now than it has been in a long time. I’ll take a league full of duos instead of superteams any day, but people don’t understand why.

The last four to five year have been daunting to look at and some could argue that it’s because my team isn’t winning, I don’t know basketball, or I’m simply a hater.. I’ve read every comment and heard everyone’s arguments and I’m ready to respond.

The evolution of the superteam didn’t begin until 2008, when the Boston Celtics sprouted out of nowhere adding Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. It wasn’t nearly as bad as it was now, but it developed since then. Some say it’s been happening for years; that superteams have been relevant since the 60-70’s.

Back in those days players weren’t running to the media demanding to be traded to team up with superstars. They stuck it out on their respective team and ran with whoever management got for them;similar to what we saw this past season with Toronto. It was all about that “just give me some ball players” mentality. Up until 2008 there wasn’t much talk about wanting to team up because guys had their own vendettas against each other and  wanted to compete, not have a cake walk to the championship every year.

Kawhi Leonard broke that barrier when he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. Leonard stated that he didn’t want to team up with LeBron that he would rather compete against him. History has a tendency of repeating itself and we might just be in a start of a new era.

Duos to me is needed. Get two stars and then build off of them. Sometimes when you have too many stars it ruins a lot morale wise and creates conflict in the locker room as we saw with the Warriors this past season. Let’s face it, yes the Warriors won a few championships and yes the heat won a few titles as well. There’s always an ending to a story and when LeBron left Miami he wanted to win one for his city by ‘himself’ and when Draymond had that fall out with Durant; the decision was made for him to leave.

Were starting to see that competitive balance across the league once again and from a fan’s perspective why wouldn’t you want this? Let’s all go back to routing for the first team we ever fell in love with instead of team hopping. If only the world were a perfect place.

  1. *I?m impressed, I must say. Really rarely do I encounter a blog that?s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head. Your idea is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I am very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to this.
